Most visitors come to Plano expecting a pit stop. They leave, planning their next trip back.

Spanning more than 72 square miles, Plano has a personality all its own — buzzing food districts, miles of scenic trails, a thriving arts scene, and an events calendar that never really slows down. The city doesn’t just change with the seasons. It comes alive in a completely different way each time you visit.

Here’s what’s waiting for you, no matter when you arrive.

Spring: Fresh Air, Art Walks, and Outdoor Adventures

Spring is Plano at its most beautiful — and there’s no better way to experience it than at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. Wooded trails, open prairie, and sweeping overlooks make it a must-do as wildflowers start to bloom.

Just a few miles away, the Downtown Plano Arts District heats up with outdoor events and the Plano Art Walk – a self-guided tour through colorful murals, boutique shops, and restaurants housed in beautifully restored historic buildings.

Looking for more of a rush? Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park at Oak Point Park puts you in the treetops for a high-flying ropes course and zipline experience unlike anything else in North Texas.

Round out your spring visit with a stop at Heritage Farmstead Museum for seasonal programs and outdoor exhibits, then head to Legacy West to wind down with great food and patio vibes.

Summer: Water Parks, Live Music, and Late Nights

Summer in Plano means making the most of the heat — and knowing exactly where to cool off.

Jack Carter Pool is the go-to for slides, lazy rivers, and splash zones. For something truly unique, The Texas Pool — a historic saltwater pool shaped like the Lone Star State — has been a local landmark since 1961.

Beat the heat indoors at Thunderbird Roller Rink, a classic throwback that never gets old. Or catch the early morning calm at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, where you can kayak on the lake or walk shaded trails before the temperatures climb.

When the sun goes down, the city comes out. Legacy Food Hall’s Box Garden hosts live music, outdoor movie nights, and events all summer long. And at Haggard Park in Downtown Plano, outdoor concerts keep the energy going well into the evening.

Fall: Festivals, Murals, and Perfect Patio Weather

When the Texas heat finally breaks, Plano is ready to celebrate.

Start with a walk or ride along the Chisholm Trail Bike Path, where tree-lined routes take on a whole new look as the leaves change. Then head downtown, where colorful murals and public art installations are tucked between some of the city’s best restaurants and boutiques.

Don’t miss the Plano International Festival at Haggard Park each October — a vibrant showcase of music, dance, food, and art representing cultures from around the world. It’s one of the best events of the year, full stop.

When you’re ready to move indoors, Plano Super BowlMain Event, and Madness Games & Comics — one of the largest game stores in the country — have you covered for a full afternoon of fun.

Winter: Holiday Magic and Cozy Indoor Adventures

Winter in Plano is festive, warm-hearted, and surprisingly action-packed.

Kick off the season at the Plano Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting at Haggard Park, a beloved city tradition that draws families downtown for performances, holiday cheer, and the big moment when the community tree lights up.

Lace up your skates at Children’s Health StarCenter Plano for public skating sessions throughout the season, or challenge yourself on the walls at Movement Plano, one of the city’s premier indoor climbing gyms.

The arts come alive downtown, too. Catch a live production at Courtyard Theater or NTPA Repertory Theatre, both anchored in the Downtown Plano Arts District. And as the evenings get longer, it’s worth taking a slow drive through Plano’s neighborhoods — the holiday light displays are spectacular.
