Plano Named Premier Host City for Sports Events

Sports tournament survival guide to Plano

Plano, Texas is one of the most attractive cities in the United States to host a sporting event! That is the finding of a national survey of readers of SportsEvents magazine. The publication’s 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards honored Plano’s exemplary status in providing superior sports facilities, event management, and hospitality.

“Plano has long valued the importance of having premier sports events services,” said Visit Plano Director Mark Thompson. “The long-term investment our city has made in providing excellent sports facilities and services is recognized through attracting top caliber events, which prove to be large economic impact generators.”

Event professionals were asked to nominate destinations and sports venues that they believe display exemplary creativity and professionalism toward the groups they host. Nominations were received from readers throughout the year and the top picks were selected based on results from an online voting system.

Plano’s elite status as a sporting events host is buoyed by well-maintained state-of-the art facilities throughout the city. These include 3,500 acres of public outdoor venues, 35 miles of hiking/biking trails, three aquatic centers, five recreation centers, more than 200 soccer fields, 80 tennis courts, 80 baseball/softball fields, 30 top-quality basketball/volleyball courts and an array of multi-use venues. These are in addition to courts and facilities at Collin College, Plano Sports Authority and Plano Independent School District campuses.

“It is clear, based on our readers’ experiences, that Visit Plano is willing to go above and beyond typical service levels to help sporting event planners produce outstanding events that participants, their families and spectators will want to experience again and again,” said SportsEvents Executive Editors John Rezell. “It is our privilege to announce their selection by sports event planners as among the best in the United States.”
