Plano Park Adventures

Updated: 09/26/19

The weather is warmer, the grass is green, the kids are out of school… it’s time to get out and breathe in some fresh air. June is Great Outdoors Month®! Plano is nationally recognized for our parks and recreation, so take advantage of the many offerings this month!

Parks and Trails

Plano has more than 56 miles of recreational trails open to the public. Chances are there’s a trail near you. Get trail information here including downloadable trail maps. Biking is also a great way to see Plano. You can even find the routes on Google!

Family at Arbor HillsTwo major parks in Plano offer great opportunities to connect with the outdoors. Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve is 800 acres and has 3.5 miles of concrete trails and five miles of soft trails along Rowlett Creek. Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a 200-acre park with hike and bike trails, a two-mile walking trail and stunning views of the prairie and forest. And now, due to a partnership between  the City of Plano, Toyota, American Park Network and Time Warner Cable, free Wi-Fi is available at City parks and recreation centers! Man’s best friend needs to get out and about as well, so bring your furry companion and check out the dog park at Jack Carter Park or Windhaven Meadows. You can view a complete list of City of Plano parks here.

Golf and Zip-lining

Is golf more your game? Practice your swing and play a round of golf at Pecan Hollow, Ridgeview Ranch, and the Courses at Watters Creek. Did you know Plano has 81 public tennis courts including a 21-court center? Check out High Point Tennis Center and Life Time Tennis for details.

If you’d rather take your adventure above ground, check out the new Go Ape Treetop Adventure course at Oak Point Park! Go Ape’s first treetop adventure course in Texas is just minutes from the Downtown Plano Arts District and is made up of numerous rope ladders and 39 exciting crossings; including the Pirates Crossing, Fisherman’s Trap, Bosun’s Chair, two Tarzan swings and five zip lines! Overall, there are five individual sections within the course. Each section takes you higher into the forest canopy, finishing with a zip line experience that is undeniably the highlight of this outdoor treetop adventure.
