Visit Plano has been honored by the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (TACVB) with one first place Judge’s Choice award and two Peer Recognition awards. The awards were presented during TACVB’s Annual Conference on September 1, 2022.

TACVB’s Destination Excellence Awards, formally called the Idea Fair Awards, promotes excellence in destination marketing. Goals of the Destination Excellence Awards are to generate awareness of the quality work done by TACVB members as they promote their destinations to leisure and business travelers.

Meetings & Conventions Promotion

Competing in the $1 million dollar and over budget category, Visit Plano received a first place Judge’s Choice award as well as a Peer Recognition award in the Meetings & Conventions Promotion category for their promotional video “10+ Venues for Conventions, Meetings and Events in Plano, Texas” which has garnered over 7,000 video views combined. The video is used to promote Plano’s diverse meeting venues across the city – from new convention hotels to historic buildings in the downtown historic district.

Public Relations

Visit Plano won a Peer Recognition award in the Public Relations category for their Travel is Better with Friends social media promotion. Visit Plano partnered with The FRIENDS™ Experience and the Shops of Willow Bend to showcase Plano as an experiential travel destination with friends. The viral video, starring two members of our sales staff, increased attendance to The FRIENDS™ Experience and the Shops at Willow Bend. The giveaway increased awareness of restaurants and retail at the Shops at Willow Bend and encouraged day trips to Plano. The Facebook post received 10,000 comments, 1,900 likes, and 9,900 shares, and the Instagram REEL received 12,000 plays, 382 likes, and 341 shares.

Texas Destination Marketer Credential Recipient

Visit Plano’s Social Media Manager, Stephanie Weeks, also received her Texas Destination Marketer credential. The TDM designation recognizes excellence in the convention and visitor bureau industry. The Texas Destination Marketing Certificate program offers industry professionals an educational framework for marketing Texas as a destination for both tourism and group business. The program includes eight areas of knowledge, including Texas heritage/cultural tourism, administration/finance, communications/technology, group sales, group servicing, marketing, tourism sales and visitor services. Once a professional achieves an area of knowledge by completing 27 credits, he or she receives a certificate of completion.

To achieve TDM designation, program participants must complete six of the eight areas of knowledge. The program is administered by the TACVB staff and board of directors, with assistance from an advisory committee that oversees the program’s development and participants’ progress.
