Plano’s Unique Coffee Shops

Updated: 04/27/2020

When it comes to coffee, there are several unique options in Plano to grab a caffeine fix. Here are a few standouts:

1418 Coffeehouse

1418 Coffeehouse in downtown Plano has a living room-style feel with several couches and chairs for you to relax in. Aside from their locally-roasted coffee options, they also serve delectable pie slices from the popular Emporium Pies as well as house-made sandwiches.

Ascension Annex

Dallas-based, Australian-style coffee shop, Ascension Cafe, is located at The Shops at Willow Bend on the mall’s lower level between Neiman Marcus and Dillard’s. The European-inspired company offers various types of coffee, pastries and lunch options. This coffee shop and wine bar has a fun twist; stop by and show your ID to get a wristband and a glass of wine and wander the mall shopping and sipping wine.

In 2012, Ascension founder and experienced restauranteur Russell Hayward set out to create an Australian-style coffee shop with simple European-café inspired food items, all wrapped up in a welcoming atmosphere where Dallas communities could gather and share. Now, Ascension Coffee has six locations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Café Intermezzo

Cafe Intermezzo, a new European-style cafe at The Shops at Legacy, embodies the essence of a 300-year-old European coffeehouse. Step into Café Intermezzo, and you are stepping into another time, another place. It’s a vacation, or an “intermezzo”(intermission), between the busy acts of your life. A specialty cappuccino, a beautiful pastry, and your getaway is complete. They also have an extraordinary breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night appetizer menu. The beverage menu alone is a 40-page compilation of hundreds of beverages ranging from specialty coffee and tea to cocktails and wine.

The Café Intermezzo espresso machine, called the Intermezzo Fantastique Deluxe, was designed and commissioned in 1978 by Brian Olson, and built by Jesse Orozco in Los Angeles. Jesse builds all Café Intermezzo espresso/cappuccino machines to this day. The machine utilizes two autonomous boiler systems with four pistons, or levas.

Starbucks Reserve

Recently opened at Legacy West, Starbucks Reserve isn’t much different from your neighborhood Starbucks. However, it celebrates the demand for quality coffee. Don’t fret; they carry the usual Starbucks menu, but much more. Though it does include a full selection of Starbucks’ reserve unique brews and small-batch coffees. These are the rarest coffees from very remote farms with limited harvests. At the Reserve bar, customers can order from a large selection of these rare coffees and have them brewed like normal Starbucks drinks or as pour-overs. This is the second location in Texas and among only a few across the country.

XO Coffee Company

Don’t let the name fool you, this downtown Plano café has a little bit of everything: coffee, breakfast, brunch, lunch, a full dinner menu, and delicious sweet treats. Adventurous? Try nitro coffee, a cold brew coffee infused with nitrogen and served on tap. Also enjoy organic house-made teas and handcrafted sodas. There’s even several drink options for the kiddos including frozen dirt (chocolate and crème topped with cookie crumbles and gummy worms).  Yum! Watch our video below via that’s Temping if you’re not convinced enough.
