Summer is here and so is BBQ season! Plano has a few heavy-hitters in the barbecue scene that you need to add to your list of must tries.
Juicy brisket is the shining star of this stall at Legacy Hall with brisket salad, brisket tacos, brisket sandwiches, or just brisket by the pound. Enjoy oak-fired brisket, house-prepared sausage and artisanal grade pulled pork.
Kenny Bowers must be smoking something – brisket and pork to be exact! The acclaimed chef and his business partners, Mike Hutchinson and Bob Stegall, opened Kenny’s Smoke House in 2013, and they’ve run their locally built smoker every day since. Bowers has not only been barbecuing recreationally for years, but has visited many of the nation’s top destinations for grilling, smoking and barbecuing meats to evaluate techniques and ingredients. The menu features pulled pork, brisket, both beef and pork ribs and smoked sausage sourced from Southside Market in Elgin, Texas. Don’t forget to stop in for Saturday and Sunday brunch with $1 mimosas!
Kenny’s Smoke House is a part of the Kenny Bowers family of restaurants including Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill, Kenny’s East Coast Pizza, Kenny’s Burger Joint and Kenny’s Italian Kitchen.
Over in the Downtown Plano Arts District, Lockhart is serving up Texas barbecue favorites. And don’t hesitate; when the daily prepared meats sold by the pound are gone, they are gone. Consider Lockhart’s barbecue royalty. For decades, owner Jill Growbowsky Bergus’ family has run Kreuz Market in Lockhart, Texas, a famous meat market that has been the standard in Texas since 1900. Lockhart’s specializes in good ol’ Central Texas barbecue and is the only place in DFW where barbecue fanatics can taste Kreuz Market sausage. Don’t skip out on the sides (especially the jalapeno mac, deviled eggs, and s’mores bread pudding)! Their daily features are the perfect pair to your meat plate.
