Come Celebrate a Part of American History at Plano Juneteenth

Honor the nation’s oldest observance of the ending of slavery in the United States at Plano Juneteenth 2023. Make a checklist so you won’t miss any of the ways to celebrate starting on Thursday, June 15 with jazz in the park and concluding on Monday, June 19 with an informative panel discussion. 

Plano Juneteenth 2023 events offer unique outlets and reasons to embrace the contributions of African Americans:

SUNDAY, JUNE 11
Pool Party Kickoff
3 – 6 pm
Free for 1st 35 people, then $5.00 afterwards. Hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and music!

THURSDAY, JUNE 15
Jazz Under the Starz
6 – 10 pm, The Art Center of Plano, 902 E. 16th
Featuring Don Diego and the Razz Band. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and beverages. 

FRIDAY, JUNE 16
Deuces and Dominoes Tournament
7 pm, Douglass Center Basketball Courts, 1111 H Ave.

SATURDAY, JUNE 17
Collin County Juneteenth Celebration
10 am – 2 pm, Haggard Park, 901 E. 15th Street
Don’t miss the fun of vendor booths, children’s activities and giveaways. Presented by the Douglass Visions Committee, The Texas Pool and the City of Plano. See what visitors can expect at the events.

Juneteenth Parade
2 pm, 13th Street 
Cheer along the parade route which starts at the corner of I Avenue and 13th Street, travels west on 13th Street turns south on G Avenue and ends at the Plano Boys & Girls Club. See the parade route.

Plano African American Museum Tour
2 – 7 pm (900 13th Street)
Enjoy the historic site’s one-day opening to see the pictorial-story of Black culture in the City’s Frederick Douglass Community. 

King of the Grill Barbeque Contest
Douglass Community Center, 1111 H Avenue
Try some of the region’s best BBQ as amateur and professional grillers compete for the winner’s trophy and prizes. Top grillers are chosen by attendees. 

Muzikal Alkhemizt Band Concert
Douglass Community Center, 1111 H Avenue
Enjoy a sampling of musical excellence in this live show featuring one of DFW’s premiere bands delivering styles from Neo-soul and Funk to blues tunes. 

SUNDAY, JUNE 18
Legacy West Juneteenth Fashion Show 
6:30 pm, Lexus Box Garden at Legacy Hall, 7800 Windrose Avenue
Emceed by Project Runway, Season 17 fashion designer Venny Etienne and radio personality Lady Jade, this colorful and vibrant celebration honors local and nationally-recognized Black designers. General admission is free. After the show, stick around and shop the looks fresh off the runway.

MONDAY, JUNE 19
Voices of the Community Juneteenth Panel Discussion
12 pm, Credit Union of Texas, 900 W. Bethany Drive (Allen, TX)
Join this insightful panel discussion with noted trailblazers sharing inspiration and their vision to elevate the community. Hosted by the Collin County Diversity Council.

It’s been 158 years since news reached Texas that the state’s more than 250,000 slaves were free. Today, events across the nation mark this historic news being shared in Galveston nearly three years after the official emancipation. Learn more about Juneteenth.
