Q&a with steve

Q: How long have you been with Visit Plano?

A: I have been with Visit Plano since January 2021. Though it’s been just a short time, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to virtually meet many of our clients and am starting to see a brighter outlook on meetings returning to Plano very soon.

Q: How many years have you been in the hospitality/travel & tourism industry?

A: 2021 marks my 9th year in hospitality! I’ve truly loved every minute of this industry.

Q: What is your favorite part about working for Visit Plano so far?

A: Being able to showcase how sophisticated and diverse Plano is as well as networking with so many colleagues and planners turned friends.

Q: What have you found to be one of your favorite things to do in Plano thus far?

A: I love our annual Plano Balloon Festival held every September. I have always been obsessed with hot air balloons and I love pointing them out to my children when I see one in the sky. Their reactions are priceless!

Also, who could answer this question and not talk about the awesome food in Plano? Some of my favorite restaurants are Whiskey Cake, Urban Rio, and Sixty Vines.

I also enjoy getting outdoors and enjoying some fresh air. Plano’s Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is our favorite place to take a family hike or have a picnic.

Q: What has been your favorite vacation?

A: Several years ago I took my family up to Mackinac Island, Michigan. It’s a beautiful island that does not allow any vehicles, which feels like you are back in the old days (especially when we took a carriage ride). We toured Fort Mackinac and learned so much history.

Q: Guilty pleasures – what can you not live without?

A: I enjoy any and all TV shows that are based off of comic books. I’ve never really grown up in that regard, but I’m okay with that! I also really enjoy listening to podcasts – Crime Junkies and The Office Ladies are a current favorite.

Q: What is an interesting fact about yourself?

A: I joined the Marine Corps at the age of 17 and did Air Traffic Control at the Marine Corps Air Station in New River, North Carolina. One of my biggest career achievements was receiving Air Traffic Controller of the Year not just once but two times.
