Favorite Plano Temptations: The Yellow Chilli

The Yellow Chilli

We continue sharing the stories behind some of our favorite food in our next round of great food temptation videos from some of our favorite places in Plano.

So far we’ve enjoyed a wide variety of cuisine – we experienced Brazilian cuisine then a favorite from Mexico to an all-American burger and champagne. This month we’re headed to India with a visit to The Yellow Chilli. Throughout the series, we’ll hear from these tastemakers in our community and discover where their passion comes from. Here on the blog, we’re going to take you behind the scenes every month.

Let’s go to The Yellow Chilli!

Jose Gutierrez is the assistant manager of The Yellow Chilli at The Shops at Legacy. Jose had never had Indian food before coming to work here and now he is in love with all the remarkable flavors in the food.

The Yellow Chilli offers made-from-scratch authentic Indian cuisine. They even grow their own pickles and make their own masala.

We need to break the myth that what is tasty isn’t healthy and vice versa. Healthy food can be mind-bogglingly delicious too.” The Yellow Chilli Master Chef, Sanjeev Kapoor

One popular appetizer is their Lawrence Road Tandoori Murgh, which is tandoori chicken inspired from the popular Lawrence Road of Amritsar, North India. Another option is the Murgh Angaar Bedgi, which is the fan-favorite chicken tikka spiced with special bedgi chillies.

For the main course, try a vegetarian option like Shaam Savera, spinach dumplings filled with creamy cottage cheese on a bed of velvety tomato gravy. Or for a meatier meal, give the Puran Singh da Tariwala Murgh a try. This chicken curry dish is inspired from the legendary food stall on Delhi-Ambala Road, North India.

Jose’s favorite dish at The Yellow Chilli is Achari Gosht and for good reason! Made with tender lamb, fried onions, home-grown pickles with Indian spices, and their own masala seasoning. They also make their naan bread from scratch!

Achari Gosht hails from the Awadhi cuisine of Uttar Pradesh and its name comes from the fact that there is a pickled taste to the lamb meat. There is no doubt about it, this is a flavor-filled dish and is all about the spices.

The Yellow Chilli’s Master Chef has his own website with recipes. He spans various cuisines and you can learn recipes for a range of foods from white rice to cabbage prawns.

The Yellow Chilli currently offers dine-in, curbside, and takeout.
