Borodin: Polovtsian Dances with Chorus
Giacchino: Star Trek into Darkness with Chorus
Holst: Neptune from the Planets with Chorus
Ravel: Daphnis et Chloe Suite No.2 with Chorus

Characterized by the Philadelphia Inquirer as a “poet..[with] an expressive edge to his playing that charms, questions, and coaxes,” American pianist Danel Hsu captured the bronze medial and prizes for best performance of both the commissioned work and chamber music at the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.  Also a 2016 Gilmore Young Artist , first prize winner of the 2015 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition, and bronze medalist of the 2015 Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, Hsue joins Hectoror Guzman and the PSO for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5.  This concerto, named the “Emperor” though not by Beethoven, is the last and most popular of Beethoven’s piano concertos.

Alexander Borodin’s opera Prince Igor was to be his masterpiece.  It was the extended ballet sequence in Prince Igor, however, known as the “Polovtsian Dances,” that never failed to steal the show.  Giacchino’s Star Trek into the Darkness is a lush score for chorus and orchestra. Daphnis et Chloe, often performed with a chorus, has becaome particularly popular – a great finale to the season.

Hector Guzman, conductor
Daniel Hsu, piano
Plano Civic Chorus, Ralph Stannard, director
