Plano Children’s Theatre – “Disney’s Mary Poppins JR”

Plano Children’s Theatre is proud to present the NTPA premiere production of “Disney’s Mary Poppins JR.” July 13-21 at North Texas Performing Arts – Plano, Rodenbaugh Theatre. Based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time and the Broadway musical that played for over 2,500 performances and received multiple Olivier and Tony Awards nominations, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect Broadway Junior musical!

“We have a very unique cast with NTPA veteran actors who are going off to college and some kids who are entering their first musical production ever!” said Director, Nick Mann, “The design process for the set and props has also taken a lot of magic to create. I’m sure audiences will love it!”

The cast of Mary Poppins JR. has embodied the importance of the message in this heartwarming musical through its two leading ladies, Addie Thrower and Brianna Sadofsky who play “doubles” as Mary Poppins, now for their third NTPA performance in a row! Thrower and Sadofsky have become best friends after meeting each other at a previous NTPA show and are now inseparable. They consider themselves as sisters and both embody the elegant Mary Poppins in real life!

“Being doubles with her [Addie] is really special to me, because I started performing at NTPA with her and I finished with her at the end,” said Sadofsky, who has been accepted into the theatre program at Oklahoma City University, where she will begin in the Fall.

Mary Poppins follows the journey into England, 1910, where the jack-of-all-trades, Bert, introduces us to the troubled Banks family, where young Jane and Michael have sent many nannies packing before the magical Mary Poppins appears on their doorstep. In desperate need to teach the Banks family how to value each other again, Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical adventures. But Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones who she has a profound effect on – even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it!”

“The lesson that I take away from Mary Poppins is that childhood doesn’t last forever, and you need to cherish that,” said Sawyer Bell, who plays the charming Bert.

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins JR. is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs and breathtaking dance numbers. Classic songs you know and love include “Practically Perfect,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and so many more with unique special effects and illusions!
