North Texas Performing Arts – Plano is proud to present Mamma Mia! the Broadway musical based on the hit songs of ABBA. ABBA was a Swedish pop group active from 1972 to 1982 and one of the most popular international pop groups of all time. ABBA has topped the charts again and again in Europe, North and South America and Australia. In 1999 Mamma Mia! opened in London and was an instant hit. Over 60 million people have seen the show, which has grossed $2 billion worldwide since it’s 1999 debut. Mamma Mia! is blockbuster Broadway musical hit with music from the 70’s, how could you go wrong with this show.
This is our annual senior show, which highlights some of NTPA’s seniors who are leaving our program to pursue higher education this fall. This show’s cast will feature 8 seniors who have been doing shows with NTPA for many years. Some of our seniors started at NTPA as early as Kindergarten.
Mamma Mia! is directed by the NTPA – Plano Managing Director, Mike Mazur. Mike has earned his master’s degree in Theatre Writing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Mike is an actor and director, who has directed over 60 plays in the New York, New Jersey, Ohio, California and Texas areas.
ABBA’s hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father. This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
The story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, creating an unforgettable show. A large cast, non-stop laughs and explosive dance numbers combine to make Mamma Mia! a guaranteed smash hit for any theatre. A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget!
