Two Plano Dads Share Their Love for Plano

Two Plano Dads celebrate pride at Crayola Experience in Plano, TX

No matter who you love or the color of your skin, Plano welcomes you to visit our city. Plano is a very diverse city and prides itself on the inclusion of all humans.

We ran across this adorable family on Instagram, the vonBKs from Plano, who describe themselves as “Dad and Daddy raising our twin boys & sharing our everyday adventures.”

Scott and Thomas post pictures of their family enjoying Plano attractions, events, and restaurants. Though they love traveling the world as a family, they are happy to call Plano home. Scott says he grew up close to Plano and has loved seeing the city evolve since he was a kid.

The vonBKs were kind enough to allow us to ask them a few questions about what they enjoy most about Plano.

Q&A with the vonBK Dads

What are your favorite restaurants in Plano?

Where do we begin?! There are too many to name. We really like Sixty Vines. It is great for a night out or a Sunday brunch. They have a fantastic kids menu and their pastas are delicious. Highly recommend the wood fired cauliflower to start!

The Biscuit Bar at The Boardwalk at Granite Park has the best biscuits and is a great option for a casual lunch. They also have a great patio area for those days where the weather permits. Our boys love the Peanut Butter and Jelly Biscuit. The Chicken and Not-a-Waffle is a must try as well.

Earls Kitchen & Bar at Legacy West is a popular spot for our family. They have a reverse happy hour brunch on the weekends which we highly recommend trying. Their Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl is a favorite.

What is your typical Plano date night?

Legacy West is our go-to date night location. There are so many dining options and we are able to either have a casual night at Legacy Hall or do something more formal for special occasions. Typically, we would start out having a drink either at Legacy Hall or a cocktail from Tommy Bahama (they make some excellent hand made cocktails).

For dinner, we may go to Taverna or KAI by Lombardi Family Concepts. If we can get the babysitter to stay late, we’d head back over to Legacy Hall for some live music and a night cap.

What is your favorite thing to do in Plano with your twin boys?

We really enjoy taking the boys to the Crayola Experience in The Shops at Willow Bend. We actually had our boys 4th birthday there. It can be a great escape, especially in the hot summer months when you want to stay indoors! They love making their own crayons and playing on the indoor jungle gym. Purchase discounted tickets here.

What are your favorite local events?

We really enjoy Plano Artfest in downtown. We took the boys (and our dogs too!) to it and we had an absolute blast. The interactive kids area was a big hit with our boys. They were able to create their own pieces of art and play various games too.

We’re looking forward to taking the boys to the Plano Balloon Festival one day. Scott grew up in the DFW area and this was one of his favorite events he looked forward to every year as a kid.

What do you feel makes Plano an inclusive city?

Plano has such a diversity of events and activities which can appeal to everyone. The fact that Plano says “Welcomes All” says a lot about the priorities of the city and its desire to be progressive in its inclusion and diversity efforts.
