Name: Cissy Aberg
Title: Sports Sales Manager
How long have you been with Visit Plano? 6 years
What did you do in your past career? I was a sports journalist for 7 years just out of college; after that I was the co-owner/producer (with my husband) for a post-production broadcast company for 20 years while raising my kids. Then I worked part-time for five years for a company that started non-profits for sports figures. That little gig taught me that a huge amount of the world’s work is done by charitable foundations.
Why sports? As a kid, I trained and showed ranch animals, mostly cattle and horses, but sheep, pigs and chickens, too. In high school I excelled at basketball and track and went to Texas A&M on an athletic scholarship. A journalism degree put me into writing for newspapers and broadcast news.
What is it that you love about sports tourism? The people I work with.
What is your favorite part about working for Visit Plano? It’s truly an honor to work for the City of Plano. I have a great boss, a super support system and a stellar parks and recreation department with the best inventory in the area. Selling sports in Plano is not hard.
What is your favorite thing to do in Plano? Eat.
What has been your favorite vacation? I love Europe and I’m definitely going back someday. Our family went on the trip-of-a-lifetime to South Africa, but probably Western Canada was our favorite family vacation; we went back three times.
Guilty pleasure: What can you not live without? Animals…must have a dog at least. Somehow I connect with animals on a different level than with people. They do what I tell them.
What is an interesting fact about yourself? When I was 12 and 13-years old, I was one of the top three barrel racers in the U.S. riding a Welsh pony and a retired racing Quarter Horse. Pure fun!
