Congratulations to Shane Sorenson, Government and SMERF (Social, Military, Education, Religious, and Fraternal) Sales Manager with Visit Plano, who was awarded the inaugural Catalyst Award from the Texas Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus at the Annual Conference in Fort Worth.
The Catalyst Award
The TACVB Catalyst Award is a new award that recognizes the outstanding professional of the year. The recipient must have demonstrated exemplary performance in their role; as well as outstanding service and commitment to TACVB, its organizations, and the tourism industry; He or she must also have exhibited active involvement with these entities and performed innovative work on their behalf.
Shane joined Visit Plano in March 2014, where he served as Convention Services Coordinator until his new appointment to Government and SMERF Sales Manager in October 2016. He recently earned his Certified Tourism Executive certification from Texas Travel Industry Association’s Travel & Tourism College, as well as TACVB’s prestigious Texas Destination Marketer credential, recognizing excellence in the convention and visitor bureau industry. He served as Education Co-Chair for TACVB’s Midwinter 2017 and Annual 2017 conferences. Shane was also recently named to Connect Association’s prestigious “40 under 40 List” for 2017. This award is given to young professionals who exemplify leadership, passion and innovation within the hospitality and meetings and events industries. Prior to joining Visit Plano, Shane served as the Convention Services Representative for two years at the Wichita Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Also at the TACVB Annual Conference, Visit Plano was recognized for their creative work in the association’s annual Idea Fair contest. Visit Plano won People’s Choice awards in their $3 million plus budget category for Advertising, Website Design, and Convention Promotion.
The TACVB Idea Fair spotlights bureaus’ marketing efforts in advertising, cooperative marketing, convention promotion, local awareness, tourism promotion, National Tourism Week promotion, website, mobile site/app, video, and sports marketing. Bureaus are grouped based on budget category. Conference attendees and a select panel of judges vote to select the winning entries for each category.
