Plano Photo Walk

Picture Yourself in Plano

What’s your favorite picture of Plano? We asked this question to 6 photographers after they spent 24 hours photographing our city while they learned new techniques from a seasoned photographer. It’s called a Photo Walk and it’s the first time we’ve ever hosted one here. We wanted them to see our destination in a different way and hoped that they would have lots of photographs to share. Here are their picks and their pics of Plano.

What is a Photo Walk?

A Photo Walk is a way to see a destination through new eyes. We invited 6 individuals who wrote about travel and entertainment on their blogs and who were creating their own photos. We offered them a chance to experience Plano as a destination with a professional photographer. They advance their skills and we share the best photographs to share the best of what Plano has to offer. Here are their picks and their “pics” of Plano.

NYLO Shines

“There’s so much to look at and enjoy there,” says Courtney Solstad of

My Crazy Savings. She’s not alone in her love for this hotel, which hosted the group for breakfast and a “shooting” expedition.

“It’s a fun and modern hotel, with something to see at every corner,” says Dawn Monroe of The Frugal Mom. “From the mirrors to the light fixtures to the furniture, bring your camera for an urban experience you’ll want to remember forever.”

“It’s so unusual and so cosmopolitan in a place you’d not expect,” said Nan Palmero, our photographic “leader” for the event.

Downtown is a New Favorite

Two of our Photo Walkers are in love with Plano’s downtown area, but for very different reasons.

“I believe it shows the spirit of Plano with the mom and pop shops, great dining and beautiful scenery all within a few miles,” says Betsy Mitchell of The Dallas Socials. “Plano has so much to offer and downtown Plano gives you a glimpse into what the city is all about.”

“I love experiencing historic downtowns and the repurposing of the old buildings when I travel across the state of Texas,” said Diann Bayes, also known as The Texas Traveler. “Seeing the horse and “hog” together reminded me that the streets of downtown Plano once welcomed men on horseback and now welcomes travelers using all types of transportation. Downtown Plano continues to reinvent itself based on the times, while embracing its heritage from the 1800’s.”

Legacy is a Hot Spot

Arena Blake, who blogs at The Nerd’s Wife, has a completely different favorite.

“My favorite spot from the photo walk was The Shops at Legacy. It’s perfect for capturing people in their element — a night on the town, dancing in a club, or delicious food! The variety of avenues to explore makes it the perfect place to photograph all aspects of life in Plano.”

The Marriott Hotel at Legacy Town Centre was the favorite of Photo Walk coordinator Fran Stephenson.

“They know the true meaning of hospitality. When you walk through the doors, you are greeted with the most delicious flavored water. It sets the stage for all the little touches for which this hotel is known. “

The Shops at Legacy were also a favorite for Colleen Pence, of San Antonio Mom Blogs.
